Headshots vs Personal Branding Photography
Personal Branding is a massive buzzword at the moment in a world that is image hungry and everyone is competing for space and attention in the digital realm. Good quality imagery is a very powerful way to stand out and communicate who you are as effectively as possible.
In 2019 you are your brand. Whether you are a small business owner, an entrepreneur or an industry specialist, how you portray yourself is an essential part of your success. Personal branding photography is about producing a collection of photographs with personality that communicates your personality, energy and brand story to your audience. It shows that you care about your image and how you are perceived. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what are your photographs saying about you?
Headshots are a more straightforward photoshoot, one outfit in a single location/background, creating a small number of professional photos to depict your professional image and it is a really good place to start your personal branding journey, a first step to realising the value of having professional photos done. Headshots are often used on the ‘about us’ pages on corporate websites, business cards and for LinkedIn profiles (when people are looking for their next role!). A good quality headshot is essential to show your personality and engage with clients.
I find that a headshot session is best for those just starting their personal and professional branding journey who have a smaller budget to invest, and only needing a small number of images, and less fuss.
Businesses and their teams also require headshots of their teams and partners. I offer a number of different types of relaxed and ‘not so corporate’ type headshot sessions for teams depending on the complexity of your requirements.
Personal Brand photography showcases your personality, makes you more approachable, elevates your brand and helps to tell the story of you and your business by creating a great variety of portraits and professional looking bank of creative imagery to use in your brand communications over the year. If you want your business to get noticed and stand above your competitors, personal branding photography will really help with this.
A Personal Branding session is perfect for entrepreneurs who prefer a full service and have a flexible budget to accommodate a higher service level with image evaluation as well as a style & concept conversation. You would like multiple wardrobe changes, and potentially a professional hair & make up service. You want to elevate your brand with a variety of photographs to better relate to multiple audiences with a consistent brand message.
Personal branding photography is used for social media profile photos, social media posts, headers and banners, your website, email signatures, newsletters, speaking pages and marketing, printed media such as newspaper articles, magazines and even book covers.
BESPOKE PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL BRANDING PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THE MODERN ENTREPRENEUR
The clients I have worked with on their personal branding have all seen an increase in their presence on social media, magazines and the national press, as well as in overall business with a fresh and relevant brand. Clients come to me with the launch of a new venture or business, a brand and/or website refresh. It’s a wonderful way to tell their story and offer insight into who they are and their brand to their audience.
I would describe how I work and what I produce for my clients as ‘Beyond the Headshot’ and my packages start at 10 images. I don’t have a studio and always work on location using natural light. However during the winter months this may not always be possible and we may have work indoors with help of additional lighting. We’ll begin with an initial call to talk about you and your business, the kind of images you are after and how you would like to be portrayed, and a feel for your marketing. We will talk through wardrobe and what to wear, different locations and a variety of types of images required to really bring your business to life. I will go on to source an ideal location(s) that suits what you do and how you want your images to look – I pride myself in using fresh and new locations to create unique business portraits for all my clients.
